Harnesses

Common questions I hear are; Where did you get the harness? What kind of harness is it? What size harness?

We do not use Collars or Figure 8 harnesses on our rabbits.

To give you some idea of what size harness a rabbit might need below is the girth of my rabbits.
Creme 8¾” 2½ lbs.
Belle 9½” 3¼ lbs.
Hazel 10½” 3½ lbs.
Greycee 11½” 4½ lbs.
Reeses 12” 4¾ lbs.
Cookie 12¾” 5¾ lbs.

Creme wore the lavender harness. The brand is unknown, this is a kitten harness, and was purchased from a department type store, Fleet Farm. I no longer use this type of harness because a) the Velcro gets stuck in fur b) you have to turn your bun over to get it on.

Belle wore the pink harness. The brand I believe is Super Pet, this is a ferret harness, and was purchased at the Animal Humane Society. I do not use this type harness anymore for the same reasons as above.

Reeses wears the blue harness and Cookie wears the red harness. The brand is TUFF, they are cat harnesses, and where purchased at a pet store. On the Pro side I like the fact that you do not have to turn your bun over to get these on since they snap on the top. On the Con side the neck portion cannot be made small enough really and I think the width could be a little bigger to prevent digging in.

Greycee wears the pink polka dot harness and Hazel wears the Red flowered harness. The brand is unknown, they are cat harnesses, and where purchased at a discount store. Same pros and cons as the harnesses worn by Reeses and Cookie.

Most of our group is switching over to the Lupine Pet brand H harnesses. I don’t have one yet but they snap on top, are wider, and have a chew guarantee. The one thing I don’t like about these is they snap on the left side which I find harder to snap and unsnap than harnesses that snap on the right.
